Ten tips for choosing the best kindergarten for your child

As parents, we all want our little ones to grow up to be strong independent individuals.However letting them out in the world can be a daunting task.You have to prepare yourself as well as your child for this next milestone.There are several things you need to look at when looking for a new school, apart from checking if the school is licensed and the facilities at the school, you need to ensure that the school will equip your child with great real life skills, character building and moral values.Here are the ten things to check for when you are looking for a kindergarten for your child;

School fees

This is one of the top priorities of a parent really, depending on your budget you would like your child to go to the best school possible. As a parent you have to decide if you are going to opt for a government school, private or international school. In Malaysia schools range from as low as 6000MYR-150000MYR per year.

Location

Ideally you might want to pick a school which is near to your place of residence. However if the place can easily be accessed it can be the potential school for your child. As a parent you would like a convenient place where you can easily drop off your child on the way to work.

Safety

In this dangerous world you can never be sure what could happen to your loved one so it is mandatory to ensure a safe environment for your child.Schools that have CCTV kinda give you a sense of confidence because it ensures your child will be looked after in the best possible way.

Cleanliness

On your visit to check out where you want your child to learn you need to check if the school is sanitary. Most nurseries in Malaysia check the child's temperature when checking in and they sanitise the children's hands. Its good to check the bathroom, kitchen area just to see if it is clean and sanitary for your child.

Children-to -teacher ratio

It is always ideal to have fewer children per teacher because we all know that children are unpredictable and can be hard to control. It can be strenuous to have so many kids on just one individual, hence if it is one teacher to 4 children the teacher can control the situation easier and keep her eyes on the children at all times.

Transportation

Some schools offer transportation facilities for the kids, that is they pick up and drop off the kids on your behalf. You can ask the caregivers if these facilities are available to your child. This would be great, cause you do not have to worry about dropping off and picking up your child. But of course these costs will be added to your fees.

Curriculum

There are various forms of education systems in Malaysia that provide American,British,Australian or KPSK(National) curriculum.International schools conduct foreign curriculum using English as the main medium and prepare students for external international examinations such as IGCSE.

Is it play based or academic? There are many teaching methods that are being practiced nowadays so you have a variety of options to choose from.

Many preschools combine the traditional curricula with elements of alternative curricula. For instance, a “Montessori” preschool may offer a largely Montessori curriculum, but also incorporate the Singapore math program and use Doman flashcards for teaching reading.

It is essential to visit each and every school you are considering and speak to the principal and teachers to gain a clearer understanding of the curriculum being offered before deciding on a preschool for your child.

Activities

No parent would pay for their child just to watch TV at the nursery ,there should be some activities for the children to take part in.At this age, your little one's brain cells are connecting at an amazing rate.

Every step and every discovery is a new learning experience for your child.Henceforth the school must provide activities that will not only improve their learning skills but must be wholesome and look at the social, language development, motor skills and cognitive aspects involved.

Menu

If they provide food for your child then as a parent you will need to know what the menu is like.Preparing information for the caregivers on your child's allergies helps the caregivers take care of your toddler.

Online Presence

In this digital age it is very assuring to find information on the school you are looking at online. It could be a website, Facebook page or even being listed on an online directory it gives us parents a reference site of what to expect if our children are enrolled in your system.

Hope this was helpful in preparing you for your child's next milestone. What are the things you look for when choosing a preschool for your child?
